El papel de la grmática en la enseñanza-aprendizaje inicial de la lengua extranjera

Abstract: Este artículo examina el papel de la gramática en el aprendizaje inicial de la lengua extranjera. Sugerimos que a pesar de la creencia generalizada de que los niños tienen facilidad para la adquisición de una segunda lengua, el aprendizaje de una lengua extranjera en el contexto escolar será un proceso muy lento, si no se dirige la atención de los niños, de manera selectiva, a los elementos formales del sistema lingüístico. Se analiza esta idea a partir del modelo de adquisición de una segunda lengua en el marco formal de aula de R. Ellis, y se presenta una taxonomía de técnicas, implícitas y explícitas, extraídas de recientes investigaciones en el área, para la didáctica de los rasgos formales de la L2/LE. Finalmente, se describe la contribución del habla formular al desarrollo de la competencia lingüística. ; This article examines the role of grammar teaching in early foreign language learning. It is argued that in spite of the pervasive belief in children’s natural capacity for acquiring a second language, progress in the foreign language classroom will be slow if young learners’ attention is not selectively directed to formal elements of the linguistic system. A rationale is provided using R. Ellis’s model of L2 learning in an instructional setting and a taxonomy of implicit and explicit techniques for focusing on language form, drawn from the research literature, is presented. Finally the contribution of formulaic speech to the development of children’s linguistic competence is considered.
